July 17-18 – Bartlett Cove, South Fingers to Adams Inlet
We pulled anchor at 7:45 a.m. in Neka Bay and headed to
Glacier Bay. Just before leaving we pulled our crab pots and had a nice big
male in one of them. Perfect timing! I could use it to make crab cakes for
dinner when we got to Glacier Bay to properly feed our new crew ;)
We anchored in Bartlett Cove around 3 pm and were excited to
greet our new crew, Lee & JoAnn, who arrived at the docks at 5:15 wearing
their Engelenbak caps from our
wedding! What fun!!!
We left the docks by 6 pm. and anchored in South Fingers
around 7 pm. As with most of our guests arriving from the east coast, they were
tired, so a quick dinner (the crab cakes were delicious if I do say so myself)
and on to bed.
The next morning we went past the sea lions on South Marble
Island, a beautiful sight with sea birds hovering above. As we came close to the island you could smell the sea lions ... not so beautiful!!! Reminded me of the smell of the penguins in the
Falklands last December!
We continued on and went up Muir Inlet to Muir Glacier. Muir
Glacier, named after John Muir who studied so much of the this region in the
late 1800s, has receded 35 miles since Muir’s travels in the region but
nonetheless is still an impressive glacier. But mostly non-tidal.
Low-hanging clouds made way for sun by noon.
Perfect glacier
gazing weather, and the waterfalls were lining the fjords as we traveled back
south down Muir Inlet to Adams Inlet where we set anchor and did a bit of jig
fishing before dinner.
Lee caught a baby halibut (sorry, no photo for that one!).
